Smartwatches in Business

It is well acknowledged that the usage of devices and modern technology is becoming an important aspect of improving business processes and productivity. One of these devices are wearables, which are rapidly gaining popularity and beginning to replace larger devices such as tablets and smartphones.

According to Strategy Analytics (2019), smartwatch sales have increased by 54% year-over-year. Furthermore, smartwatch shipments totaled 68.6 million units in 2020, and are expected to increase to 157.2 million by 2026 (Research and Markets, 2020).

Ericsso (n.d.) found that even consumers find wearables of great importance for the future of businesses. They discovered 40% of consumers already interact with their wearable devices more than with their smartphones, and that 43% of consumers anticipate wearables will eventually replace smartphones.

Salesforce (2015) conducted a study and found that wearables are an important aspect for businesses. As reported by Salesforce (2015), 79% of wearable company adopters believe that wearables will be critical for their future business success. When integrating wearables in their organization, 76% reported improvement in company performance. Finally, 86% of businesses intend to invest more in wearable technology over the next 12 months.

But why are wearables so important for businesses? Salesforce (2015) found that businesses adopt wearables in their industries for a variety of purposes. Wearables are used by 23% of companies for workplace security, 20% for employee time management and 20% for employee communication.

According to Digital Silk (n.d.), wearables benefit businesses in multiple ways. Wearables in the workplace are gaining popularity and, as a result, a reputation. Because of their appeal, the wearable market will only continue to grow in the upcoming years. Wearables at the workplace solve multiple issues, including productivity, safety, communication and health.

Based on the current existing research, it is easy to conclude that wearables are and will continue to benefit business in many ways. Not only are they becoming increasingly popular and highly regarded by both consumers and businesses, but they also offer a wide range of benefits and use cases for them.
